Cargo pilferage rises over poor identification tag

High rate of pilferage and stealing of cargoes at the seaport have been attributed to lack of Biometric Identification Card (BID) to recognise the number of people entering the port daily.

Stakeholders said that the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) did not have an up to date register of Nigerian dockworkers at the ports. They explained that the agency had failed to issue BID to dockworkers for several years.
