Nigeria: Bill to check piracy passes second reading

A bill seeking to make provision for the suppression of piracy and to provide for punishment for the offences of piracy and other maritime crimes has scaled the second reading at the Nigerian Senate.

Leading the debate on the general principles of the bill, the sponsored, Senator Nelson Effiong noted that Sea piracy in Nigeria had grown into a worrying economic crime, adding that Nigeria needed to do more to suppress the rising trend of piracy.
