Crew kidnap report in Gulf of Guinea

Following an alert from MDAT-GoG early this morning (Feb. 20th), various sources suggest that a number of crew have been kidnapped from a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Guinea.

The original report stated that a vessel was under attack some 76nm south wast of Cotonou, but offered little detail. Subsequently, Maritime Bulletin has reported that at least 10 of the 24 crew have been kidnapped by pirates following an initial attack on the ship. The website names the vessel as the Alpine Penelope, but we await official confirmation from reporting bodies.
