Philip Batty - Chairman
Philip Batty is the Chairman and co-founder of Maritime Asset Security & Training (MAST) Ltd and has been actively involved in revolutionising the security of ships since leaving the British Army in 1999. His experience during 18 years with the UK special forces (SAS) where he specialised in amphibious operations has given him a unique ability to identify the importance of an all embracing security package for owner and vessel alike.
Philip has been instrumental in leading the growth of the Company since its incorporation in 2005. Previously serving as the Chief Operations Officer of MAST, Philip has recently been appointed as Chairman to oversee the strategic focus of the business and chair the Board of Directors
Phillip Cable LLM - Chief Executive Officer
Phillip Cable is the Chief Executive Officer and co founder of MAST. Since leaving the Royal Navy where he held a Commission for 6 years, Phillip has been active in providing advice and guidance to governments and commercial organisations in the field of port and ship security. In particular, he has worked throughout the Middle East in Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia where he advised governments on the issue of compliance relating to the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
Phillip is a law graduate and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and has a Master's degree in Maritime Law which provides him with an exceptional understanding of the sector's specific insurance and legal requirements. Prior to his naval service he worked in the Lloyd's of London Marine Insurance Market.
Phillip has been a key factor in the growth and diversification of the MAST group of companies and his vision and leadership has been consistent throughout. He has developed recognised industry leading expertise and presence and has been part of the underlying development of the maritime security industry
Gerry Northwood OBE - Chief Operating Officer
Gerry is the Chief Operating Officer of MAST. Since leaving the Royal Navy, where he reached the rank of Captain, he has enjoyed success in applying his hard won operations experience and skills to the commercial sector. During his naval career he commanded operations against Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean and narcotics smugglers in the Caribbean. He played a key role in the creation of the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) and Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa (MSCHOA) and for this he was awarded an OBE.
He is an acknowledged expert in counter piracy and maritime security matters and this has allowed him to help shape the nature of military counter-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean, and the increasingly successful relationship between the military and commercial sectors. He is well placed to assist clients with finding practical and cost effective solutions to their maritime security needs.
Peter Astbury - Senior Negotiator for Contingency Response
MAST's lead consultant Peter Astbury has a track record of extricating ships and crews from arbitrary detentions and deadlocked situations in many of the most challenging places in the world. Peter's success is based on an extensive background in commercial shipping and detailed understandings of local environments.
Peter has particular expertise of Somalia. Since 2004, he has been frequently retained by ship owners, insurers and even Flag States to assist and lead negotiations and take other steps necessary to secure the release of ships and fishing boats hijacked along the length of the Somali Coast.
Anthony Rix – Business Development and Board Advisor
Anthony previously worked for five years in London as Director of Maritime Security at Salamanca Risk Management Ltd and for 34 years as a Warfare Officer in Operations in the Royal Navy, where he retired as a Rear Admiral in 2009. He has proven expertise in Corporate Communications, Maritime Security policy and operations, Training, Equipment Procurement and Change Programmes in the UK and abroad, as well as extensive first-hand experience of Intelligence provision, team leading and security project management in the Middle East and West Africa.
Anthony's responsibilities within the team will include advising commercial ship-owners and private yacht owners on a range of maritime matters and supporting MAST on their global maritime security business.
Andrei Afitsinski - Chief Technical Officer
Mast Technology is led by Mr Andrei Afitsinski who has dual Russian and British Nationality and holds a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering and certified PRINCE2, MCP and Risk Management practitioner. Andrei has a proven track record in designing and implementing complex integrated IT and Security employing a range of technologies.
He has twenty years both strategic and hands-on experience in designing, delivering and supporting innovative Security and IT solutions to the Business, finance and public sectors. In addition, Andrei has extensive experience in delivering technical, IT and web strategies for organisations including MOD, Housing Corporation, NHS and number of private and public companies. Before joining MAST Technology he worked as Technical Director and Chief Technology Officer in various large UK IT companies.
